Momiji Manju
These days, “Momiji Manju” have become famous enough as to be synonymous with “souvenirs” in Hiroshima. As for the history of the Momiji Manju, legend has it that in the Meiji period, Hirobumi Itou was visiting Miyajima, and as he was resting in a tea shop, he looked at the hands of the young girl who had brought him his tea and remarked jokingly, “What cute hands—like momiji [maple leaves]! I could just eat them!”.
Please try these momiji manju and the juicy bean jam inside!

Miyajima Rice ScoopsMiyajima Rice Scoops
Almost as famous as the Momiji Manju are these rice scoops.
In the 18th century, in order to make the lives of the people easier and inspired by Sarasvati’s lute, these were put on sale in Miyajima. With the idea of “eating one’s enemies”, they are also useful as good luck charms in such things as sports or voting.
